Antalya Travel Guide: Dastaratacak with its Chilling Cliff | Mavimore

The region on the western slopes of Antalya, whose mountains are the subject of legends, was called “Shepherd Mountains” in ancient times, and was named “Bey Mountains” when the beys ruled, and these mountains were the free areas of shepherds for years. The peasants, who did not prefer a settled life because they were engaged in animal husbandry, were the representatives of anarchism at that time, refusing to join the war armies of the emperors or sultans and resisting. These shepherds, who carry the traces of the shaman culture to the present day, also constitute the thousands of years old story of Dastaratacak. Dastaratacak, an extraordinary geological formation descending like a sharp wall hundreds of meters long, in the Bey Mountains where these beautiful people live, takes its name from a sad story. In this region where daughters were capital for shepherds, fathers did not easily agree to their daughters’ marriage. Girls who could not reunite with their loved ones would throw their dastars (headscarves) down from this mountain to make a wish, in order to please their fathers, in accordance with the teachings of the Shaman culture. Although it is difficult for the dastars to reach the ground from the sharp and deep cliff, it is not known whether the girls who hoped for this tradition were reunited with their loved ones, but contrary to the story of the region, it was abandoned over time. What is left behind is a wonderful nature surrounded by cedar and red pine trees. When you pass the road from Altınyaka road to Elmayanı Plateau, as the altitude increases, cool and clean weather begins. The foothills of İncegeriş Mountain, lined with red pine trees, carry you towards the summit and you can see the palm-sized view of Antalya to your right and left. At an altitude of up to 1600 meters, giant cedar trees gradually welcome you. You take a wonderful walk among giant cedar trees, whose trunks are covered with moss and whose arms grow into tree-sized arms. One side is drying and the other side is green. As soon as the road ends, you see a balcony-like set of rocks, and when you look down, the hundreds of meters long cliff sweeps you off your feet. There is a tiny sea and city view behind it, mountains surrounding it and a huge valley in the middle. Dastaratacak, where the fear of heights is experienced at its most intense, seems to tell the story of the girls with an ear-ringing hum. Mavimore Turizm is a travel agency registered with TÜRSAB.
