The history of Oman, one of the oldest settlements in human history, dates back to the Stone Age. Oman, mentioned in Sumerian tablets, adopted Islam in the 7th century. The country, which was invaded by Portuguese colonies in the late 1400s, came under the control of the Ottoman Turks between 1581 and 1588. The country, where the colonial struggle continued for many years, became stronger during the rule of the Yaariba Dynasty in the 18th century. In 1730, Ahmet ibni Said was elected sultan in Oman, which captured the Portuguese colonies in East Africa, such as Mombasa and Zanzibar, at the end of the civil wars in the 1740s. The country, which has been controlled by rulers belonging to the same household since then, became even stronger when it started oil production in 1967. After the overthrow of Sultan Said by his son Qaboos Ibni Said in 1970, many reforms were carried out in the social and economic fields. The country signed an agreement with the USA in 1980, giving America the right to benefit from its port and airport in return for the economic and military support it would receive from America.
