Economy of Hong Kong | Mavimore

Known as the trade and tourism capital of the Far East, Hong Kong has a vibrant free market economy based mostly on international trade. Due to its generally mountainous terrain, only 13 percent of the country’s land is suitable for agricultural production. However, this rate is not sufficient to meet the country’s fruit and vegetable needs. For this reason, foodstuffs are imported. The country is a major commercial centre, with textile industry, light industry (toys, radio, electronics), cinema industry and, to a lesser extent, heavy industry (shipbuilding, cement and iron industry) and especially banking. The most important part of its exports are to the USA and the UK. Although it is not economically profitable to operate the country, which has limited natural resources, three quarries are still operating. Although it receives a lot of rainfall throughout the year, Hong Kong is dependent on foreign sources of water due to its population density. The single most important natural resource is the Hong Kong port. Since the country consists of islands, naturally fishing is very developed. Hong Kong is Asia’s largest free market and port, and the busiest center of trade, industry and tourism. Mavimore Turizm is a travel agency registered with TÜRSAB. Document number: A-8307
