Lviv Travel Guide: The City Where 85% of the Population Is Said to Be Women: Lviv | Mavimore

In September, I went to Lviv, located in the west of Ukraine, which is often reported in the press and said that 85% of the population consists of women, and stayed here for 5 days. I visited many places, down to the smallest detail. My purpose in going to Lviv was primarily because it was a city on UNESCO’s World Cultural Heritage List. If I cite Wikipedia as a bibliography; Of the city’s population of 860,000, 88% are Ukrainians, 8% are Russians and 1% are Poles. I also learned that there were a significant number of people of Armenian and Jewish origin living there. Again, since it is a former Eastern Bloc country, people from the Former Soviet Republics and occasionally the Turkic Republics came and brought their culture, so I must say that the city has a very rich cuisine. I also shared these impressions on Mavimore.com, because it would be unfair to gloss over them with a few lines. ( http://Mavimore.com/GeziNotlari/farkli-konseptli-restoranlariyla-zengin-kulturlu-kent-lviv ) Additionally, approximately 200,000 people enter the city daily. The city is quite touristic, it really has a lot of things to see and do. There is another place that I would highly recommend; The town of Rohatyn, located near Lviv, 75 km away from Lviv, where our famous Hurrem Sultan was born and spent her childhood years. I also shared my travel notes about this place on Mavimore.com. ( http://Mavimore.com/GeziNotlari/hurrem-sultanin-dogdugu-yer-rohatyn ) Let’s talk about the fact that the population is predominantly female… I have visited many countries and over 100 cities so far, but as it was said in Lviv I have never seen women around in the amount said to be so. Okay, women have the aesthetics of the Slavic race, they are really beautiful, but I don’t think there is a ratio as stated. Possibly the Ukrainian government or whoever and/or whatever may be trying to attract some tourists by creating this urban legend. So those who go for this reason will definitely be very disappointed. But if you say, I came all the way to Lviv, is there any nightlife in this city? Of course there is, you can find many nightclubs. Some of these are restaurants, cafes and places that serve as strip clubs after a certain time at night. If you are wondering if there is a place you would recommend, you can go to Club Slit, located right in the city square. You can have a nice meal here for around 15 USD, drink tea or another drink on the mini balcony terrace with a view of Svobody Street, or watch striptease shows with paid entrance that start after a certain time at night. But I have traveled to many countries, seen many cities, I can name two cities where women are around a lot and almost make proposals to men; The capital of Thailand is Bangkok and the capital of the Philippines is Manila. Let’s take a look at the places to visit in Lviv’s city center; Rynok Square is located in the center of the area called Old City. There are cafes, restaurants, museums, churches here; You can come across musicians, painters or performing artists at any time. You can also take the wheeled excursion train called Chuda Train, which departs from here, and visit the old city in about 1 hour, and a part of the city center is also on this route. Lviv’s chocolate culture is very rich, there are several chocolate stores in the Old City. You can sit and enjoy the many different kinds of chocolates sold here, as well as drink chocolate drinks. There is the Opera House at the beginning of Svobody Street in the city center, this is a huge square. There are cafes, restaurants and shops on both sides of the street, and the middle part is a huge park and people spend time here at all hours of the day. The Beer Museum, located right next to the city center, can be visited (Lviv Beer Museum). This place is surrounded by an old but active brewery. You can visit the museum and drink beer, or there is a nice restaurant where you can have your meal. Another place to see is the huge cemetery called the famous L ychakiv Cemetery, which is almost like an art museum. This place is also very close to the center of Lviv; You can also go by bus or tram. The wealthy class of the city, artists and high-ranking bureaucrats were buried in this cemetery, and a part of it was also reserved as a martyrdom. Those who died in the Second World War and various wars in the past were buried here, as well as the people of Lviv, who died in the civil war with pro-Russian separatists, in this cemetery. While I was visiting the cemetery, I saw the corpse of a newly buried soldier and his relatives crying, it was quite sad. They have great hatred towards Russians and they reflected this on some objects. If you want to shop, there are stores of famous brands and small-scale markets in the city center, but it is not possible to find a large shopping mall. If you need such a place, you will have to go to the shopping center called King Gross, which is about 20 km outside the city. Getting there is also possible by public bus, which departs from the city center. I went by taxi and the cost was about 7 USD. The city is very clean, its people are civilized, and they protect the historical texture and natural beauties. When you look at photos from 50-100 years ago, it seems that not much has changed. Nobody looks at anyone or disturbs anyone, traffic rules are followed. Moreover, unfortunately, their currency has lost a lot of value due to the recent civil conflicts, so it is a very cheap destination and is close to our country. I think those who go to see this beautiful city will be very pleased and want to go again. Mavimore Turizm is a travel agency registered with TÜRSAB. Document number: A-8307
