Norway is a country known for its high level of welfare as well as the importance it attaches to human rights. Women’s rights, minority rights and LGBT rights always find a place on the country’s agenda. The Norwegian Women’s Rights Union, founded in 1884 with the support of the then prime minister, still fights for women’s rights to education, voting and employment. In 1990, exemplary steps were taken regarding women’s rights with laws covering the royal family. The rule that the succession to the throne passes from the father to the eldest son, stated in the country’s constitution, has been changed to the eldest child. Regarding LGBT rights, Norway is the first country to enact a law preventing discrimination against LGBT individuals. Norway was the second country to legalize civil unions in 1993, and in 2009 it became the 6th country to grant marriage rights to same-sex couples. Norway is also among the top countries receiving immigrants, especially in recent years. The immigrant population constitutes 15 percent of the country. However, the country is also on the international agenda with discriminatory and assimilation-oriented practices implemented against the Sami communities, known as the indigenous people of the region. Life in Norway is intertwined with nature. Nature is a part of the country’s culture and has a great role in society. Norwegian people enjoy nature with festivals, concerts and different organizations throughout the year. These events are the places where social cohesion occurs most intensely. In a society where sincerity is more difficult to establish in daily life, people become closer to each other through these activities. Norwegians, a people committed to their traditions, are open to introducing people to their culture. The country is one of the best addresses to experience nature, history, modern and classic together. Mavimore Turizm is a travel agency registered with TÜRSAB. Document number: A-8307
