Religion and Belief in Mali | Mavimore

In Mali, which has a constitution defined as a secular state, 90 percent of the country is Muslim and 5 percent is Christian. The remainder of the population has local religions and animist-like beliefs. The country’s lands rapidly became Islamized after being introduced to Islam in the 11th century. It is known that Mali, which is considered a religious country, is sensitive about freedom of religion. However, regarding the Libyan civil war in 2012, the pressure of radical Islamism was felt in the north of the country. However, women were forcibly confined and oppressed, and prohibitions on alcohol and similar religions came into effect. The attacks of this so-called Islamist organization on moderate Muslims and cities and its terrorizing activities are the country’s biggest current problem.
