I will write something for you about Rome, the capital of the great Roman civilization and one of the most distinguished foreign holiday destinations for us Turks. I don’t know how to make an introduction about Rome, but the first impression it made on me was “If Mehmet the Conqueror had seen this place, he would have definitely conquered Rome.” This city is truly a work of art that has jumped out of history and is still standing tall… Let’s start our article with little tips: Currency is Euro (EUR) Time difference is -1 hour. In other words, it is 1 hour behind us. Since its currency is EUR, it is expensive compared to Turkey. It is not very suitable for shopping. Airport-Central transportation costs approximately 45 EUR (taxi). Walking is enough to get around the center. There is no need for transportation. If necessary, there is some metro transportation. “Forno = Oven” you should learn this word. You will eat the most delicious and affordable pizzas here 🙂 I really think Rome is a place that everyone who has the opportunity should definitely see. All the streets, buildings and even the atmosphere of the city take you back to ancient times. When history and Italian pleasure come together, a wonderful harmony emerges. Some pizza, some ice cream, here’s Rome… Places to Visit in Rome: Vatican City Piazza di San Pietro (San Pietro Square and Church) Colosseo (Coliseum) and Roman Forum Piazza di Spagna (Spanish Steps) Piazza del Popolo Fontana di Trevi Panthenon Piazza Navona Vittoriano and hundreds of buildings, museums, something you see wherever you turn your head… Before going into the details of the places to visit, I would like to tell you a little about Rome. Rome is officially a tourist-infested city. Especially in the summer months, the area called the old city, where all the places to visit are located, is crowded with tourists. You may have to wait in line in many places. At the same time, Rome is a city that you can explore entirely on foot. For this reason, I do not recommend you to be there in July like us, my advice is to visit this city in spring. The theft problem, which emerged throughout Europe after some countries joined the European Union, is also at its peak in Rome. For this reason, my advice to you is to travel with your eyes open and choose bags that you can hang on the side instead of backpacks. If you have a car, do not leave valuables in it. Store your passport and money in safe places. When we got on the metro to go to the Vatican on the first day we arrived in Rome, we were exposed to this type of incident, which, believe me, you would never find appropriate if you saw the girl trying to do it. Thanks to our last minute realization, my wife still has a phone 🙂 and despite the incident, not a single person in the subway turned around and was surprised. In this city, they rob dozens of tourists a day. I say be careful; ) Anyway, rather than tasteless things, let me tell you some tiramisu and ice cream. No, no, I will tell you what to eat and drink in another article, not here; ) As I said before, you can walk to all the places I will write about shortly. The furthest point takes 20 minutes at most. Since the streets of the city center are very narrow, it is not possible to use vehicles such as taxis. Strength to the grassroots: ) Vatican City: (San Pietro Church and Vatican Museum) I called this a city, but actually the Vatican is the smallest country in the world. This is the building block and administrative center of the Christian world in the heart of Rome. When you go to the Vatican, they will not let you into the area. Only citizens and those with special permission can enter the area. There are two main places to visit in the Vatican. One is St. Peter’s Square and Church, the other is the Vatican Museum. St. Peter’s Square is the famous square where the Pope, whom we always see on television, addresses the public. You will understand what I mean when you go there. I can say that both the square and the church are the most magnificent buildings I have ever seen. The men did not eat or drink, they did this 500 years ago, it makes you say “well done” : ) San Pietro Church San Pietro Square Vatican Soldiers You go through security control to enter the San Pietro Church. That’s why there’s a long queue, but don’t let this scare you away. The queue moves very quickly. By the way, female visitors are not accepted in revealing clothing (short skirts, shorts, etc.). You have to buy something like a shawl at the entrance. Therefore, ladies, be sure to bring something to cover yourself with. When you enter the church, you are fascinated by the art inside. This is a huge art museum that has become completely touristic, except for the small chapels. Believe me, you would sacrifice anything at that moment to be able to read the Latin writings on the walls and ceilings 🙂 The second stage of the church is the observation terrace at the top, which is where I cannot give you a full recommendation. We went up and saw the view in the pictures. The price of this view, which reveals the whole of Rome at your feet, is 5 EUR and 550 claustrophobic steps. I do not recommend this climbing adventure for those with claustrophobia, shortness of breath and physical difficulties. This ascent is truly a track that is so difficult that even the man who says it is mine will faint. You can pay 2 more EUR and go up the 200 steps by elevator, but believe me, it’s the last 300 steps. So don’t waste those 2 Euros. Colosseo (Coloseium) and Roman Forum: I guess there is no need to explain this place… If you return from Rome without seeing this ruin, which we know by heart from the Gladiator movies, it is very likely that you will be condemned in society, let me warn you 🙂 The Roman Forum and Colosseum are in the same region. You buy the entrance tickets together. Sundays are like public days and entrance is free. Normally entrance is 12 EUR. Arc of Constantine Colosseum Piazza di Spagna (Spanish Steps): This is one of the iconic places of Rome. Like the streets and stairs of Galata in recent times, this place has been invaded 24 hours a day, especially by young people and tourists. An ideal place to have a drink and watch people pass by. I suggest you don’t come without seeing it, but don’t get your expectations too high either 🙂 You’re tired, you’re tired 🙂 Piazza del Popolo (Popolo Square): This square is a square you can reach after a nice walk on Via Del Corso Street. It is more imposing and larger than other squares in Rome. I can’t say it has a trick, but don’t pass by without seeing it. Ideal for a short break. Fontana de Trevi (Fountain of Love): I guess there is no need to explain this place. This fountain and square are among the main reasons why many people from around the world come to Rome. Unfortunately, it was under renovation when we went. I do not post pictures because it is completely under construction. The funny thing was that even though there was no pool or water, people continued to throw money at the pool. The municipality may have agreed to tip the workers instead of giving them a daily wage 🙂 Don’t come without seeing it. Pantheon: This temple is an old Pagan temple in the heart of Rome. I definitely recommend you to see this magnificent and impressive temple. You reach here when you buy an ice cream from Navona Square and cross 2 streets. Piazza Navona (Navona Square): We can say that this is the most lively square in Rome. I think it’s a square you should definitely see, with people sitting around 2 pools, an art gallery and many restaurants. You can grab a snack like ice cream, waffle, truffle and watch people in this square. The restaurants in the square are generally very full. I suggest you grab your drink and sit by a fountain and have a little rest. There are many ice cream parlors in the square, but be patient and get your ice cream from Giolitti, which is 1 street away 🙂 I will also explain it in the food and beverage section. Vittoriano (Altare della Patria): This building and square was the most impressive building in Rome for me. As I said at the beginning of the article, if Fatih the Conqueror had seen this place, he would have definitely conquered it and erected his statue here. This is exactly what I’m talking about. You should definitely see this huge and magnificent structure located in the heart of Rome. There is a lot to write about Rome. I will write more and details in another article. At the same time, the sweetest part of the job is “What to eat in Rome?” I am planning to write an article for your recommendations. Stay tuned. You won’t regret it 🙂 NOTE: I recommend you take a look at my personal blog www.dunyabuyuk.com for my other articles. Mavimore Turizm is a travel agency registered with TÜRSAB. Cortina Travel Guide: Skiing in Cortina, Italy | Mavimore
We made preparations for Kitzbuhel and Salzburg, but we went to Italy, Cortina D’Ampezzo, for skiing! : ) The reason is that there is no snow in Kitzbuhel, and even if they make artificial snow, the a
